I’m currently sitting in a small diner in Ferndale MI waiting for the bad weather north of me to pass. No need to get wet if if I don’t have to. Yesterday was fairly simple. Simple is relative, I know. If you had asked me a week ago about a 273 mile ride, it would have seemed long. In comparison with the riding I have done so far, it is not bad at all. By the time I finish this in several weeks, I should be able to ride anywhere.
I met some good people today. I had some issues with my bike. I lost a headlight screw and the it was causing me some problems at night. I also lost two bolts on one of the passenger foot pegs. At least I thought I lost them. What actually happened was that they broke off. I pulled out my handy-dandy GPS phone and found Terri and the gang over at Vista Kawasaki in Dayton, OH. (www.kawasakivista.com) . I rode over and they helped me out with no delay. If you happen by, tell
them hi for me.
After the bike repair I made a quick stop at Wal-Mart for some sunblock and I was on my way. I got up to Ferndale Michigan where I met up Wayne and Kristi, the brother and sister-in-law of Christine. Christine is my friend Daniel’s girlfriend. You will be hearing from Daniel next week because he is joining me Sunday for the rest of the trip.
I just spoke with my friend Mark Eklund at Fleetanalytics (www.fleetanalytics.net). He is shipping me
a camera that I can mount to my handlebars. I will be able to record my ride and post it for everyone to be able to see what I see as I ride. I think that will be a cool enhancement to the blog.
Well… it looks like the weather is clearing. I’m going to head out. My next stop is Canada. Not sure what connectivity I will have up there, but I will do my best to update my blog as much as I can. My friend Shane will be arriving there today and he is singing in a big picnic/party they have every year. I will post more about that when I get more info. That will be on
Saturday. So the next few days will be less riding for me. This is good because Sunday I come back to Ferndale and then head to Sturgis, SD. That will be another long ride.
Update: Wayne sent me some photos of the diner and a few places in Ferndale. The bike with the cover on it is mine. I was in the diner working on this blog entry when he took them.
